Photo feature
Upscale a photo to twice the resolution
Upload a small or soft photo and Banana Studio enlarges it to double the width and height, adding detail as it goes. It runs on SeedVR, a model built for restoring and upscaling images, rather than on a general image generator.

Image upscaler: what it does well
Twice the pixels each way
Width and height both double, so a photo 1000 pixels wide comes back 2000 pixels wide.
Made for upscaling
SeedVR is a restoration model. Its job is to keep your picture and add detail, not to invent a new scene.
Saved without extra compression
The upscaled image is delivered as a PNG, so no lossy compression is added on top of the result.

Good to know
- Upscaling cannot bring back detail the camera never caught. For a blurry portrait, try Enhance Quality, which restores faces before enlarging.
- Nano Banana Pro and GPT Image 2.5 can render AI images at 4K directly, which can save a step.
- In the Editor it is listed as Upscale Image.

Questions about Image upscaler
How much bigger does the upscaler make my photo?
Twice the width and twice the height, which is four times as many pixels. A 1024 by 1024 image comes back at 2048 by 2048.
How many credits does the image upscaler use?
Each Upscale Image edit costs 25 credits. The 7-day introduction ($1.99, 240 credits) covers 9 edits, and the Pro plan's 2,200 monthly credits cover about 88 edits. The exact price for your settings is shown on the Create button before you start.
Will upscaling fix a blurry photo?
It sharpens and adds detail, but it cannot invent what was never captured. For a blurry or damaged face, Enhance Quality restores faces first and then enlarges.
What file format does the upscaler give me?
A PNG image, which avoids adding compression artifacts to the upscaled result.
Can I upscale an image I made with AI?
Yes. Download it from History, then upload it to Upscale Image. Images from any model work.
Can I upscale more than twice?
Each run doubles the size once. You can upload the result again for another round if the file is under the 4 MB upload limit; PNG files grow quickly, so this mostly works for small images.
